New York based startup Kwambio is exhibiting at Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas the second year in a row. This time, the 3D printing company presents the brand new binder jetting based desktop ceramic 3D printer, Ceramo Zero Max ($5,000) and a new industrial 3D printer – Ceramo Two ($45,000).
Kwambio is primarily known as a manufacturer of ceramic objects on-demand for the design industry. The company ships out over 12,000 objects to customers around the world every year. At last year’s CES Kwambio presented their first ceramic 3D printer – Ceramo One, which is based on binder jetting technology that mixes ceramic or silica powder with a water-based binder, which works like glue.
Ceramo Zero Max, the new desktop version of Ceramo One features the same technology at a smaller scale. It prints 4 layers per second, and its build size is 150 mm x 150 mm x 150 mm. The resolution is 300 dpi per layer.
Kwambio’s CEO Vlad Usov notes, “A smaller ceramic printer is an ideal option for those who print prototypes on a daily basis. With our glass-based powder, the manufacturing process is the shortest possible: it’s just the printing process, an object doesn’t require glazing and firing. It is a way to prototype efficiently.”
“We are inspired to see so many design-oriented women-led businesses on the rise,” added Dmitriy Skomorokhov, Kwambio’s Sales Director. “Entrepreneurs in Canada and the United States design stylish smoking pipes and other accessories for smokers. Kwambio prints thousands of them yearly. Many of our clients are considering printing their products in-house with the help of our new and shiny Ceramo Zero Max, and we are here to help them establish a full production on a budget.”

According to Kwambio, the industrial Ceramo Two 3D printer is two times faster with a much bigger printing bed. It has a build speed of 1,000 mm per second and a 400 x 250 x 400 mm build size.

Kwambio also offers their own proprietary sustainably sourced clay- and glass-based powders, all of which come with a water-based binder. Other optional equipment provided by Kwambio are kiln ($3,000) and Depowderting station ($2,000).
This year, Kwambio became a part of Stanley+Techstars Additive Manufacturing Accelerator in Hartford, Connecticut. "That was a major push in development of a new material: a mix of ceramic powder with aluminum oxide which is used for engineering and metal casting," wrote Kwambio. "It has a higher density and a low firing shrinkage. It can be used in metallurgy, as it withstands contact with melted metal with temperatures up to 1300°C (the majority of alloys). It is also a strong dielectric and can be used to manufacture complex leached rods.
Both new ceramic 3D printers, the Ceramo Zero Max and the Ceramo Two, are currently available for pre-order on Kwambio.com and are expected to be shipped out to customers in July 2019.
